Question:

Could we run a crane from moon to earth?

Last night I was thinking what if we could build a crane system from the moon to earth. We could have a platform held in hihg atmosphere by an orbiting anchor, we could then run a cable from the moon to the platform and pull things into space.Like fishing from the atmosphere. What do you think?

Answer:

The stress on the cable from its own weight would be far too great that even if we could overcome the severe logistical problem of stringing the cable this would not workThe payload of the vehicle to lift the cable in the first place would be millions of times greater than the moon rocket was trying to deliver to the moon.
The Blackbird SR-71.
