Question:

Coursework questionn pleasee helppp :) Radioactivity etc.?

right ive been asked to answer this question on radioactivityit says'explain what types of matierials can stop each of the types of radioactivity and explain why it is important that the aluminium and paper are the correct thickness.the scenario is.wprkers in nuclerar power plants wear badges withh photogenic platesthese photographic plates colour when exposed to ionising radiation.new recruits to the power station need to have training on why it is important to wear the badge and how it helps to identify the type of radioactivity that has leaked.the badge is a large photographic plate with a third covered in aluminium, a third covered in paper and a third left uncovered.and i also need to exsplain on how a badge that has a third covered in aluminium a third covered in paper and a third not convered at all could work to identify the types of radiation in a leak.THANKYOU SO MUCH :)

Answer:

Okay, first things firstThe radioactivity of an isotope or any other radioactive element that is exposed to a person gives off the color changing of the badgeThe badges have certain colors that correspond to certain elements; thus is a quick recognition of the element that is leakingSecondly, since radioactive material can leak and decays spontaneously, the half life equation would be helpful to understand to give a clear meaning of the overall concept that is happeningA third of the badge is covered in aluminum, which aluminum is an element that helps to block the radioactive source{performing a radioactive lab activity were piece of Al foil are placed over the source-TI 204 would help to better understand the relationship that Al has to the source)The relationship shows that the more pieces of Al added, the lesser the radiation that the source emitsA third is covered in paper for this very reason; however a third is not coveredMaybe, I'm not sure; it has to do the the absorbency and also the emitting of the source that it needs to have energy escapeHalf life is based on time; so the more time that the source has to emit the smaller/bigger the half life isI'm not sure; but I hope this kind of explains an overall general thought.

HiIf you check in the Express newspapers, there's a page with upcoming activities that you and your friends can attend once you deem that it's safeThere are tours around the country and hiking groups are trekking awayMake your picksYou and your friends can travel all over the country using the busIf you plan carefully, you can go Point Fortin one week, Toco the other week, then to Mayaro and so onJust go in a group and stay in public placesIf you need directions or information when you're in those places, you should ask a pharmacistThey'll be honestAnd whatever you plan to do when school opens, you should get a head start because you're not the only one outTravelling around the country would be safer and bestLeave early in the morning and return before darkThere are many adults that haven't visited these areas and are quite lost in a conversation if it's being spoken aboutEnjoy and be very careful.
