Question:

Curtain Rod not Staying in Wall?

My curtain rod won't stay up, it is pretty much falling down at the moment. A plastic anchor (I think) was used in the hole along with the screw which now looks to be stretched out. The wall is not very solid, I think it is just drywall. Any advice on what I could do to fix the hole or what I should use to keep my curtain rod up? I should add that the curtains aren't heavy and all I do is pull them back in the mornings and close them at night. Thanks!p.s. I have not had much experience with do it yourself home stuff so please be specific!

Answer:

they have plenty of things just for this at home depot go the their hardware dept deepending on the weight of your curtain rod you could use some anchors or some toggle bolts the rep there should be able to tell you the best thing to use.
Take it down and polifill the hole. Then go to the hard ware store and get a bigger wall stud and another anchor.By doing this you will distribute the weight of the curtain rod better.then put it back and it should stay.
What they do for large curtains at weddings and so on is to have uprights that you can hook rods onto, so you can use shorter rods. The upright parts are fastened to large metal plates on the bottom and those plates stay put because they are very heavy. It's called a pipe and drape system. With some basic tools and some lumber, you could make an equivalent thing. You could use cinder blocks or bags of sand as weights.
How To Fix Curtain Rods
Get a small container of drywall patching compound or spackle. You can get it premixed at the hardware store. Ask someone there and they can help you find it. Take out the old screws and plastic anchor and fill the hole. You could get a little putty knife at the store to do this, or use your finger or a knife with a smooth edge. Whatever you use, be sure to rinse it off before the compound or spackle dries. In the wall surrounding the window are 2x4 studs of solid wood (the window frame is put into the stud frame when it's installed). Get some small screws or nails (again you can ask at the hardware store) at least 1 inch long. Reattach your curtain rod holders by nailing them to the wall studs and you'll have a nice strong support.
