Question:

dancers.axle turn?

i recently lerned how to do an axle turn. I know the steps and the movements and everything, but just can‘t seem to get it. If you know of a video a good axle turn, it would be greatly appreciated. Or, if you have any advice about doing axles, that would also be great. I have the most trouble with keeping up straight while turning, i bend over. Also, i am not spinning around far enough. Thanks for everything!

Answer:

Your plie will help you to spin around far enough. Make sure that you are tucking your bottom leg and are spotting.
Use your arms and whipping leg to help lift yourself up and around. Your supporting leg requires a lot of strength to get your body off the ground and speed to get it where it needs to be in the turn as well as back down in time to land! To stay up straight, think about lifting up through your WHOLE BODY. Every inch of you is lifting up.while staying in opposition, of course!
If you have trouble keeping straight then think of this as you are doing your axle. Before you start pretend there is a pole running from the top of your head through your body. Keep your shoulders down, and your hips square (do not lift hip) or inline with your shoulders. It sounds as if you are trying to whip around and also divide your body in half. Think of your body as one solid unit.
