Question:

Did the tire guy rip me off?

I went in for a tire repair and they told me they could not repair it due to side wall damage. So they asked me if I wanted to replace the tire for $137. Am I being to paranoid or did they rip me off? (tire size- 205/60r16)

Answer:

Danial, First off, yes, a tire that has sidewall damage has little or no chance of being repaired, so a replacement is almost always necessary. Secondly, as far as the price it depends greatly on the specific model of tire you purchased. If it was a top quality tire, such as the Goodyear Assurance ComforTred Touring, then paying $137 is quite fair. However, if you got a lesser brand model, like a Fuzion or Firestone, then yes, you probably over paid.
You are being paranoid and they did not rip you off. Sidewall damage is not repairable. Never has been, never will be. And please keep in mind your tires are the most important piece of safety equipment on your car. As for the price of the new tire - without knowing the brand and model and if that includes installation or not I can't really say if it is fair, but it does fall into about the mid-range for that size.
Tire Sidewalls are not Repairable. $137 Mounted Balanced is Way to high for that tire.
