Question:

Did You Buy a Glider Chair For Your Nursery?

I am debating on whether or not to get one. I am leaning towards yes though. For petite or short people would you say the ottoman is a must in order to rock the chair? If you did NOT get a glider, what type of chair did you use to while nursing the baby?THANKS!!

Answer:

No I don't really like gliders. I was fortunate enough to be given not one but two nice old rocking chairs. I can honestly say I haven't used either one very much though! I almost always nurse the baby on the couch with a nursing pillow, or in bed laying down.
I didn't get one until my son was out of our room at a month. I wish I had done it sooner as it was so much easier to feed and sit comfortably. I ended up getting one at Walmart online and it was JUST as nice ans soooo much cheaper! My nursery is all Pottery Barn and the glider matches totally! GL!
I have a glider but I don't use it. My daughter never liked to be rocked and I find it kind of squished. When I have my next child I would rather have an overstuffed arm chair for reading books on or cuddling together. Some even rock. That being said some people love the glider...I just don't.

First of all, a gliding ottoman is a MUST for a glider chair. Doesn't matter if you are petite or short. I want to get a glider, but I can't afford to buy one that will handle visiting family members who weigh 250 pounds. One of them will sit in it and break it and I'm concerned that they or the baby would be injured. So, I'm sticking with a regular rocker. However, you do need to search to get one that is lower to the ground to be comfortable. I'm 5'4 with short legs and a regular rocker is really hard on my back. Your thighs should be supported and your feet should be flat on the floor when sitting comfortably. The most common low rocker is an upholstered rocking chair. JC Penneys has about 10 that work for short people in a variety of fabrics and styles. A glider rocker that works for heavyweight people starts at $300 (without ottoman) and you do have to search for a store that carries them.
