Question:

different types of magnetic materials?

Dear Members, Diamagnetic substances acquire magnetism due to orbital motion of electronsparamagnetic substances acquire magnetism due to interaction between magnetic dipolesFerromagnetic substances acquire magnetism due to domain structure. This is what my textbook says. I dont understand the concept domain structure. Please help the concept of domain structure and how it helps ferromagnetic substances acquire magnetism. Thanks in advance, revered members.

Not all pets are alike. Does he have a play pen to run around in?
Feeromagnetism involves exchange coupling between adjacent atoms that closely align their magnetic moments together. The process cannot be explained by classical physics modeling; you need quantum mechanics to explain it. It results in increasing mu (permeability) up to tens of thousands of times in certain kinds of steel from mu0 (air value). Only 5 elements are predicted by the quantum theory to show this effect. Fe, Ni, Co and 2 others I can't remember. I would stop worrying about it unless and until you take a graduate course in quantum mechanics. Meanwhile, enjoy the fact that B can be augmented tens of thousands of times by adding a high-permeability core to a solenoid or toroid! And that you can fish for nickels underwater with a permanent magnet!
Poke him with shock rod, LOL, Just kidding
