Do car alarms really work as a deterrent to damage/theft? Why not jsut buy a blinking red light?

Answer:

Unless it is some kind of magic red light, it probably wont do much. I think an alarm scares a burglar away once they have set it off.
they work,,my son and his friend have one in there cars and when it goes off in you yard you can hear it with the light you can only see when you are awake
My roomate has a VW with the blinking red light. I have a 01 saturn with a car alarm sticker that I got from someone. His car had the windows smashed, mine being parked right next to it, didn't. His alarm didn't go off because it's not a window sensor alarm. It's hard to really judge. if you have an alarm with some kind of motion sensor that works if some one gets within, say 1 foot, I think that would work better than just a blinking light.
