Question:

Do I need a Memory Card Reader for my Camera?

I bought a Nikon CoolPix, and it comes with a UC-E6 USB Cable. Do I need to buy any memory card or memory card reader, then? Thanks!

Answer:

Memory cards are the film for the 21st century. But like film, memory cards go bad with age. So don't expect them to last for ever. It is a good idea to buy several cards. Good practice with memory cards is to reformat them frequently. Of course you want to transfer your photo files to you computer hard drive or/an external hard drive. so this is the course you want to follow:1. Do not use the delete button on your camera. The delete button does not completely remove all of the file. Particles remain and can interfere with next picture taken. 2. After you transfer your photos to your storage device, i.e. hard drive. Format your memory card before using it again. Now you have a nice clean slate on which to take pictures. You should buy a card reader, too. I say yes because so many people have problems with these camera cords (i.e. UC-E6 USB). You should leave your card reader plugged into your computer all the time. So all you have to do is insert your memory card when you wish to get at the photo's.
you need to get a memory card if you want to take pictures data transfers faster through a memory card reader, but it is not needed.
well depends on how often you want to have to dump the pictures out of the camera. I doubt the internal memory is all that large. Memory cards are great especially if you plan on being out and about and plan on taking a lot of pictures. as for the memory card reader, not necessary, you should be able to pull the pictures straight off the camera, from the usb cord being plugged in.
