Do I really need to put felt paper down on top of the plywood counter top before laying my cement board?

some say lay 15 pound paper what gives?

Answer:

It's a cushion -bed for the cement board. Less chance of it cracking if cushioned.

It's actually a vapor/moisture barrier. And yes it should be put down when laying this kind of surface over wood.
