Question:

do i understand this correctly? no power chairs for disabled?

i'm told will take away power chair(obama) would like to hear if this is true or just rumor?

Answer:

I think that we are all in for a surprise... from Obama health care,,
Right now nothing is set in stone - no big changes to the health care system have been finalized or approved. Right now Obama's proposed health plan talks about the federal government regulating the rental purchase of power driven wheelchairs. I think it is safe to assume that if Obama's health care plan gets passed in some form there will be changes in how the medicare process currently works. It is unclear whether it would be good or bad from the perspective of a disabled individual trying to get a new power wheelchair. In 2007 medicare paid out more than half a billion dollars for power wheelchairs - a number I'm sure has only grown over the past 2 years, so from a cash outlay standpoint it seems like it is a large enough line item for the government to try to enact cost saving measures that might impact your benefits. I think the best thing to do is to 1) get your power wheelchair now under the current rules if you don't already have one or replace your old one in case things do change, and 2) campaign for your right to a power wheelchair by continuing to do your best to be informed about the issue, make sure your friends and family are informed as well, and write to your representatives to make sure your voice is heard
As already said - there is no health plan yet - so nothing is set. BUT, if you read what Obama has wanted the reverse is true. Obama does want to change the way power chairs are authorized - but the rules will be different, not harder or less hard. Currently the rules are unfair. People who do not need power chairs at home - only when out in the community are unable to get them through medicaid/medicare. So a person who lives in a very small house and can set it up to hold onto furniture to get from place to place - and whose home is too small for a power chair - cannot get one, because it is required that you need them at all times to get them paid via Medicaid/Medicare. Obama has stated that is unfair and it should change.
nonsense. every disabled person who needs one, deserves one. without it, how can they live with independence? where did u hear this? when? sounds more like rumor to me.
