Hi I purchased a Sony Bluray optical drive from Ebuyer (bad move),The drive showed up in a tackie box with no cables included, manuals etc. I plugged in a SATA cable in to the back but its not powering up, there is a slot for another connection but with no cables enclosed I am I right in saying the SATA cable should power the drive up as well?
to no longer confusing drives. confusing drives and dvd's have separate skill connectors. some Sata drives have the molex connectors and a few do no longer, so as that they like an adapter in the experience that your confusing rigidity would not paintings. extra moderen, extra beneficial confusing drives have the two varieties of skill connectors on them. the hot warm-shot video enjoying cards have a particular connector to the skill grant. A SATA cable alone will not power your drive. There should be a slot with 4 big pins on the blu-ray drive you purchased. Open the case of your computer and find the power supply. There should be cables on it that would fit onto the 4 pins. That would be the power to your drive.
SATA data cables do not provide power you will need to plug in a proper SATA power cable. If your power supply does not have the proper connection you will need to get a Molex to SATA adapter. Here is the adapter you will need bit.ly/m5P4SW
