Question:

do skateboards come with rubber wheels as standard?

ive had a fairly cheap skateboard in the past with plastic wheels, which was ******* annoying to ride, and my mate had rubber wheels, im am wondering is it more common to have rubber wheels?silly question to go into detail about :p

Answer:

No skateboards come with rubber wheels, except for mountain boards. Wheels are made from urethane. Manufacturers include different additives to soften the urethane. The majority of skateboard wheels are fairly hard 95-101a durometer. Medium hardness wheels are usually used for composite, metal and hard wood surfaces. Soft wheels are primarily used for cruisers, longboards and filmer boards. The only completes that come with soft wheels would be longboards. If you want soft wheels, you will need to purchase them separately. You may have to get risers, as the majority of the soft wheels are at least 60mm. Ricta makes some smaller soft wheels aimed primarilt for filmers.
Not a silly question most people don't even notice differances in wheels, cheap chinese made store skateboards use to come with those really hard plastic wheels, I know what you're talking about I wouldn't have ever used one. All skateboard wheels are made from urethane which is plastic. like adidas said, there are certain hardness for the wheels, softer wheels are great for street skating they grip good and roll over any type of terrain, the harder and bigger the wheel the faster it'll roll. most wheels i'd say are about 92a-99a. that's medium to hard and 101a being the hardest usally good for vert skating.
