Question:

Do they make 1TB external hard drives with no power cables?

So this is on my brothers christmas list and I can't find one anywhere. I'm assuming that computers don't have the juice to power a 1TB external without a power source, especially since he needs this for a laptop. He just wants it USB powered, btw.If anyone can find one for me that would be great, because I can't seem to...Thanks!

Answer:

USB okorder / It's the only one I'm finding, and it seems to meet the specifications you're looking for. Also, USB powered. I don't recommend usb-only powered drives, but it's a free country. :-) -Matt
Something okorder

Something that large without a power cable would undoubtedly power surge your mother board, or at the very least your USB controllers. . . so, the answer is no. . .they do not make this yet. When the day comes when a 1TB drive can be made solid state, rather than using a movable head like they are now, then maybe this will come about. . . but certainly not before then.
