Question:

Do you need plastic bags?

Are you in favor of plastic bags? Yes or no answer please.

Answer:

Yes I like to build props with them.
We rarely use plastic bags as the stores tend to charge 3 cents for them around here but they are really not bad for the environment unless littered. Plastic grocery bags are made from natural gas. Natural gas is inexpensive because it is an unwanted byproduct of oil production, indeed 60% of natural gas is burned at the well head instead of investing in the extra pipelines, compressors and cryogenic liquefaction units needed to bring it to market. So basically if the plastic bags not made, it will likely be burned either for nothing or for energy. Plastic bags are made of hydrocarbons and when disposed of or recycled, those hydrocarbons are sequestered indefinitely. We spend millions trying to sequester carbon and yet people over look the sequestering that they are doing by happenstance Environmentalists are chasing their tails with plastic bags, they are actually more helpful to the environment given our current use of fossil fuels. It may seem environmentally friendly to be against plastic bags but fundamentally it isn't. It's just green washing and how easily people are misled.
