I had a friend in college who does alternative modeling, and one hint I could give you that I learned from her is that if you go on a photo shoot, then bring a friend (or even your mother in your case). I'm pretty sure my friend told everyone who photographed her that it was a requirement that she be allowed to bring another person. I even went with her once. And at the time she was in her early twenties and I get the impression you're in your teens (considering you have to convince your mother it's safe), so it's even more important at your age. Also, although my friend does it as a hobby, she's made it as far as being in an ad that was in Gothic Beauty magazine and I think she was in a few other smaller magazines (that might have been online only). So even though you know you're not going to get extremely popular, you never know when you might get a chance to get featured somewhere cool at least.
