Question:

Do you think hotels should provide gloves for their workers?

I've been working working as a housekeeper for the past month and I have to buy my own gloves. I had asked my boss if they provided gloves and she said no but she did go out and buy a box. 1 box! They lasted a week and I was stuck buying my own again and they are quite expensive. I am the only housekeeper who wears gloves, the others clean the rooms and don't pay any attention to it. So I am guessing my boss thinks I should not care either to clean pee, spit, poo on toilets and touch who knows what on sheets with my bare hands! This is my first time working at a hotel so maybe all of them are like this. I've always assumed that when dealing with other peoples bodily fluids you should have gloves on

Answer:

why can't you use both? in my opinion and personal experiences, hand wraps -which is more commonly termed as cotton wraps or wrist wraps- it really doesn't make a difference tho, as long as your wrist are highly supported (especially for beginners who tend to lean in way too hard into there punches, rather than first developing there striking form) and your knuckles get some protection out of it with the wraps too. MMA style gloves are going to protect your knuckles better than hand wraps would if that's what your going for, but i would rather hurt my knuckles than jack up my wrist from them buckling when i punch my heavy bag. Another tip i have from personal experience is don't spend cheaply in protective gear. You WILL get injured eventually if you don't practice safety first. Buy long wraps made from good material, and make sure you don't wrap too tightly. Wrapping in layers has been most helpful for me. But honestly you should try to have some sort of glove and wraps on. The more you get injured, the longer you can't practice and get better. it also makes a difference how hard and how heavy your bag is, and what sort of skills your trying to develop. If u want power in you punches, you might want a heavy bag rather than a smaller punching bag; If you want to practice kicks, you want a longer muay thai style bag that extends higher for head kicks and lower for leg kicks; and if you want to practice your technique alone, a regular punching bag would be helpful. but if you can just get one out of the two, i suggest the wraps. You don't want a broken wrist.

Hand wraps because they protect your and and strengthen your hand while the gloves they protect too much so you don't get the experience
You should always include some bag practice (but not heavy bag) without wraps. Don't become a fighter who gets so use to the wrap that you are afraid to punch in the street when your hands aren't wrapped (I've seen a couple of those)
Most smoke detectors use a sight style sensor. If smoke (or steam) obstructs the signal between the transmitter and sensor, it trips the alarm. (I think it's infrared signal.) If you had a fire detector, that works on heat. They are used primarily in systems that include a sprinkler system.
