When aware of the first shootings? I would've thought an announcement would have been made on the loudspeaker, but if I heard gunshots or seen a shooting - I would have thought to pull the fire alarm - but maybe that would be a bad idea
Mylar is a probably the most reflective material; 95 to 98% of light bounces off of it. White paint gives about 85% reflectivity, but it's better than mirrors which only reflect 40 to 60%. So, if expense is a concern go with paint.

take it back apart put teflon tape on the part that it screws on to don,t over tighten it
