Question:

Does a cold air intake has to be accompanied with an exhaust system?

I have installed an injen cold air intake to my honda fit 08 and my car didn't show much of a difference :s it makes 11sec from 0-60mph! .does getting a cat-back system improve by far my car's performance or will it just add a little?? will my car then beat 9sec from 0-60mph?

Answer:

Covering the hole is to prevent the soil from leaking out. Coffee filter, newspaper, dead leaves, etc. will do the same job, weigh less, and take up less space.
You are driving a sewing machine, it cannot be made into a race car without thousands of dollars of performance modifications. And changes you bolt on will make small incremental changes. Put on a cat back and you just might be able to catch my 1995 Escort, which is a stock automatic, not even the GT, well, at least until I notice you coming up behind and I give it a little gas!
having a small displacement motor puts you at a disadvantage for response to modifications. Meaning: the smaller the engine the less you will notice power gains from mods. Unless that little dinky motor can hold some boost(supercharger, turbo) you are better off just leaving it with the intake. Intake gets you better economy and power. If you get a cat back you will have almost identical performance gains as the intake.
