Question:

Does a specific power of attorney allow access to safe deposit box?

Hello, If I do a nortorized specific power of attorney for someone to have access to my safe deposit box upon my death will the bank accept this in California and allow that person, with the key, to access the box?

Answer:

A power of attorney expires upon the person's death. So no, the power of attorney would be useless after you die. The executor of your estate would have access the safe deposit box.
In most states, power of attorneys and living wills end at the death of the authorizing person, so probably not. That kind of thing is handled by the Executor of your estate.
