Question:

does a stock 1996 mitsubishi eclipse have a cold air intake?

i was going to add one but if the stock is efficient enough that i wont see change then its not worth it. i really want to know how much mpg and hp gain i can expect and how exactly they can offer mpg increases.where can i buy one if it would help?THANKS

Answer:

The stock intake and filter are good, you won't notice a thing if you replace them.
Unless you live in an extremely hot area, then a CAI will not do anything for you.you would be better off getting an SRI, Short Ram Intake.
No, the eclipse has a factory intake system. A cold air intake is designed to help air flow more freely unlike the ridged factory intakes of most cars. In actuality you may have a negative impact on gas mileage, installing a cold air intake. Your cars fuel consumption is determined by the air/fuel ratio an just adding a intake may disrupt that ratio due to a exhaust an cams are not being adding with the intake. Adding more air without having the proper parts to release the exhaust gases such as an aftermarket exhaust system, will cause your fuel to possibly run lean.
