Question:

dog chews up bed...?

Ive been through 2 beds with my 9 month old puggle. Im really dont feel like buying a 3rd one just so she can chew it up. What else can I do? Does she really need a dog bed? Ideas? Suggestions?

Answer:

When you see your dog chewing the bed scold her and then give her something else to chew on such as rawhide or a toy. When she chews a toy, praise her. That might help with managing her chewing. As she gets older she will most likely stop chewing.
Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond)
It seems common that puppies chew up their beds (and everything else they can get their teeth on). Is this a free standing bed or is it her crate pad? If its just an extra bed, I would say don't buy another one for a while until she grows out of the puppy stage. You might just try a blanket on the carpet for a while to serve as her bed. If it her crate pad, I would say you should replace it. If you do replace, I would say buy a cheap one. There's no sense in dropping a bunch of money on something that your dog is just gonig to destroy.
If she is chewing up her bed then keep her in a kennel when you can't watch her. Puppies get bored and chew on everything to entertain themselves. Don't let her behave this way. You need to correct her and when she does this and if it continues then take away the bed all together. Dogs do not need a bed. They are dogs... they can sleep on the floor. And I hope no one takes offense to that, I have a dog and he sleeps in bed with me. But seriously, dogs are dogs and they have no problem sleeping on the floor.
While they are not indestructable they do hold up well to most dogs. Thanks.
