Question:

Drivers side windshield wiper stopped working.?

A few weeks ago we had some snow and I cleared off my window and when I was about to pull off my drivers side windshield wiper stopped working. I asked the guy at the car lot I bought my car at about it and he tightened the bolt connecting the wiper arm to the car. They were working again, or so I thought anyway. Last night on my way home from work it was raining so I had them on (first time I had to use them since the bolt was tightened). It was working half the way home then all of a sudden it stopped moving again. Why does the bolt keep loosening itself? Is the arm stripped? I doubt it‘s the linkage since I can get it to work after tightening the bolt. It just keeps loosening itself or something. It‘s really annoying and it‘s really rainy here and I can‘t drive my car because of the stupid wiper. Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:

yes it is id put some lock tight on it and see if that will work
sounds like where the wiper fits on the stud by the windshield is stripped out ! you probably have to buy that piece where the wiper arm fits on. try the junk yard for a good piece.
Inspect the splines on both the wiper arm and the stub coming out of the cowl. I would guess that the wiper arm is the part that is stripped. Replace the entire arm . Use a nylon locking nut to tighten this assembly up and you should be fine. If you just replace the nylon nut it could come loose again at a time when you really need it, so do this the right way. Good Luck
