Question:

Eating bedding??

I think my guinea pig is eating her bedding, I use pine bedding, the kiln-dried. Could this be harmful for her??

Answer:

Don't use pine or cedar - they're very, very bad for guniea pigs, even if they've been dried. CareFresh and aspen are much safer, and Carefresh at least is nontoxic and safe to nibble on.
i would suggest replacing the pine bedding with lots of hay. it is healthier for the piggie. i do not know if the pine is any good for it either.... hay is the best bet / option.
particular, as long because of the fact the bedding is sparkling and timber chips or straw or perhaps newspaper (however newspaper ink may be poisonous). Hamsters like to chew and while they'd they make their nests out of grasses and dried leaves and issues which they'd consume in the event that they hungry. they decide for dissimilar fiber to maintain issues shifting of their digestive platforms too.
My guinea pigs do it all the time - They chew it well and it wont hurt their insides or anything - I also use the pine bedding and i've had mine for a long time now - I take them to the vet often and they're always very healthy- When i asked my vet he said it was normal- They eat everything. Everyone says that pine bedding is very toxic- but it's actually not - The shavings are fine- the WOOD CHIPS are harmful. But i don't know. I've always used pine - and none of my animals have had any problems.
dont use pine bedding anymore. use carefresh or hay. pine is poisonous to the guinea pig.
