Question:

energy saving light bulbs?

I have these lights fixtures in my kitchen, I don't know what they're call..but they are flush to the ceiling and uses these big light bulbs. I want to replace them with the pig tail light bulbs, will that set my light fixture on fire because I'm using the wrong light bulbs? Please help.....

Answer:

No, they're fine substitutes. You have recessed lights, and any pigtail light, (CFL, or compact fluorescent) is going to be much less wattage and therefore produce much less heat. More importantly your saving money ;D Sthckh is right, CFL's won't last if a dimmer is in the mix.
If your current lighting uses a dimmer switch, you won't be able to use the fluorescent (pig tail) bulbs. Check the label on the bulbs you plan to buy to make sure they're able to be used with your current fixtures.
I advise to avoid these bulbs at all cost. Not only can these bulbs, like the previous posters mentioned, cannot be dimmed, but they contain Mercury. Should you break one, even if it's in your trash can, a Hazmat team will have to handle the clean up. This is an emminent enviromental holocost these bulbs (being dumped in landfills) will cause. It just boggles the mind why everyone is jumping on the bandwagon to brag how green they are.
there called can lights ,you cant use them with a dimmer switch and the trim of the can light is made for your big light bulbs.so unless your can light trim is a shower trim ,it will look terrible.and to fix the trim,it will cost a lot more than your big bulbs
Your question is too important to have answer via a net response. Get a neighbor or relative who has some knowledge of the exact bulbs to advise you. You are talking about your personal safety which a bit more important than the style of your light bulb. Please do not plunge ahead without a solid answer to your question.
