Question:

Engine light problem with my van?

I have a 96 Dodge Caravan with the 3.0 v6 engine while the vehicle is being driven or is idling the engine light will come on and stay on upon resetting the system the light goes out and stays out but comes on the next time it is driven what is this?

Answer:

The thing you need to do Dorothy is to find out what error code is causing the light to come on.Try using the ignition by placing the key in the ACC position then put it into the run position , back to the ACC position then back to the run and back to the ACC position then to the run position then leave it there. The engine light will flash once then pause then flash twice in a row , this will be code 12 which means that the battery was disconnected within the last 50 starts.Wright down each code that appears and when you see code 55 that means it's the end of the stored codes. Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way once you find out the code or codes let me know and I'll help you with what it means and what you should do to fix it, also some parts stores will scan that vehicle for codes free of charge , one place that does it is auto zone.
Not exactly sure what it is, but.I don't think it's your actual engine. The Check Engine light shows up in cars even when the engine is fine. So, it can be a few different things.
you,ll have to get the computer scanned on it to find out what the code is that's making the cel light come on, there's no way i can guess at it and tel yo for sure whats causing that too happen, most common cause is a bad 02 sensor on them that causes that to happen or a bad, crank sensor on it,if you have it scanned you,ll get code from the computer that will explain why this is happening to it,then you,ll know for sure, auto zone will do it for free, good luck with it.
