Question:

Exhaust system with no intake, is that bad?

I just got an exhaust system for my car, bigger tubing and what not. My air intake is still stock though, so will there be a problem with that? I suck in the same amount of air but release it out the exhaust quicker to me that sounds like no problem but friends told me that I would need to upgrade the air intake to keep up. Is that true?

Answer:

No it's not a problem. If you want a little more horse power go with a KN air filter. If you want more horse power and better Mileage, Go with a cold air intake. But You souldn't cause any problems with the bigger exhaust. You will however have less Back pressure So you may lose some power
No. What you've done was amplified the sound (like yelling through an orange traffic cone) and lowered the pressure on the exhaust. personally I wouldn't recommend a cold air intake, Id rather have a ram air intake. which is a setup that has hoses using the air rushing towards your engine to force itself into your engine. Its all about position and nothing more.if you can get a hose that runs straight from the front of the engine (find a gap where air gets through your grill or make one) towards the back and ends where your intake goes into the engine, thats a ram air effect.
this will do no harm to the car, what your friends are trying to say is that in order to get the full benefit of your exhaust then you need to increase the amount of air going into the engine so an air intake would be beneficial then, but not required
