Question:

Find the additive and Multiplicative inverse of : 2/3?

need help with this problem, I guess i must have missed the class for this cause I do not remember it at all.

Answer:

in additive inverse you have to change its sign from +ve to -ve and vice verse so it will be (-2/3)but in multiplicative inverse it will be (3/2)
Not sure why there is an apostophe in fromt of 2/3. Do you mean -2/3? The additive inverse of a number is just the negative of that number. If the original number is negative, the additive inverse is positive. The additive inverse of 2/3 is -2/3, and the additive inverse of -2/3 is 2/3. Two additive inverses add up to 0. The multiplicative inverse is the fraction flipped over. 2/3 has a multiplicative inverse of 3/2. -2/3 has a multiplicative inverse of -3/2. (Multiplicative inverses have the same sign as the original number). If you are dealing with a whole number, make a fraction out of it by putting a 1 under it. The multiplicative inverse of 4 is 1/4. (Because 4 is 4/1) The only number without a multiplicative inverse is 0. Two multiplicative inverses can be multiplied together to get 1.
