Question:

FLOWMASTERS, COLD AIR INTAKE on 98 jeep grand cherokee?

what kind of flowmsters should i get for my 98 jeep grand cherokee? How much will it cost, and how much HP gain? Also what kind of cold air intake should i get? How much will it cost, and how much HP gain? PS: it‘s a 4.0 i6

Answer:

Most cold air intakes all produce about the same amount of hp depending on the particular application. I found a budget one that would fit and from what I've read the brand as some good reviews. The cost is only $59.50. If your looking for hp gain on the exhaust your best bet would be to go with a cat back system. If you're just wanting the muffler and maybe tips I would suggest the flowmaster street series. I have always had good luck with those.
For the gas mileage i am not sure, but a gain of 6 hp and 4 lb-ft of torque at around 4500 rpm will be achieved. it doesn't seem like much but you will notice the throttle response. If you want a little more changing the exhaust to a Magnaflow 2.5 catback it will increase by 18 hp and it will make it sound better.
No point. Its a four banger. Just get a bigger pipe.
I have a 98 w/ the straight six just like yours. Ive found that the best affordable sound combination for exhaust is a Magnaflow high-flow cat ($120) and a Flowmaster Super 40 series muffler ($150). You'll pick up like 10hp. If you got money Borla makes a muffler that sounds amazing on 6 cylinders, but its $500. As far as cold air intake, they are all about the same in terms of power increase, maybe 5-10hp, so i would just go with the cheapest one you can get (Summitt brand, or build your own at Autozone), but a name brand one like KN ($170) or Accell will bolt right in with no effort. Realisticly all you need is a high flow filter, these trucks come from the factory with a large no kink air intake that routes right out from the front grill. I rock the Fram Air Hog ($40) or you can get the KN for $50.
