Question:

ford explorer transmission fluid check?

it is an automatic transmission. How do i check fluid level?

Answer:

Having the fluid hot is a good idea. but make sure you keep the engine running when you go to pull the dipstick otherwise u will get a false reading. the handle can be on either side of engine and u might have to dig for it under the spark plug cables. it should be a picture of a drop of oil on the handle. wipe it clean and re-dip at least twice before accepting reading. careful! fluid can be very high temperature. just make sure u replave the handle after you done: otherwise dad might not be too happy lmfao!
drive the vehicle for 3 or 4 miles to heat up fluid then with engine hot raise the hood and remove transmission dipstick probably toward rea of engine follow the readings on the stick. check the color of the fluid on a white piece of paper it should be pink and clear.
transmission oil hot, depending on year model, 02 up has to be checked from underneath, unless engine is an 8 cylinder, older models by dipstick on passenger side fire wall
