Question:

from a head unit w/ 4 rca outs to 6 outs+ powered sub, what to buy without breaking bank.?

all i need is a good overall balanced sound on my van. i have never installed a head unit or amps on a vehicle. this is for an old club wagon family+guest hauler.

Answer:

if you get a kicker zx100.2 for each pair of door speakers they can all be run off 1 set of RCAs off the head unit because all kicker amps have RCA outputs as well as RCA inputs
if your not super serious about sound quality, I suggest making all your purchases at walmart. they actually have pretty decent name brand equipment for a very low price. pioneer and sony to name a few. you can get an deck, amp and a sub for about 200 bucks. if you can't install them yourself, you can always take them somewhere else and get them all installed.
Head units arent that hard, just pull out the old one, buy a 30 conversion kit if they make it for you van and plug or splice the right wires together. Then before you install the wires plug in your 8 or 4 gauge wire to the back and then run then along the carpet or under it to where you want to install the amp.
