Question:

Frozen windshield wipers during snow storm?

Ok, we had a blizzard today and what would normally be a 20-30 minute drive turned into 2 1/2 hours. My 2005 Chevy Cavalier wipers froze up and stopped working! Why?! And how do I prevent it from happening again?

Answer:

It's so they won't freeze to the windshield. If the wipers aren't stuck in the ice then it's easier to scrape the windshield.
I would take it to the dealer and pitch a fit. Wipers fall under the standards of the motor vehicle safety standards act and are supposed to be error free and last forever. But you are supposed to change the wiper blade once or twice a year
Sounds like melted snow got caught up in your wiper motor and refroze. If that's what happened, you might try to make a shield for the motor to keep the moisture out but if your wiper blades just froze to your windshield, there's not a whole lot you can do about it. Rain-X makes a windshield washer fluid with an anti-freeze in it and it seems to work OK.
