Question:

Frying an egg on a sidewalk?

Its 100 degrees F here on Long IslandI know that the street has to be at least 158 degrees F to turn a raw egg solid, since the street is not that hot,I layed out my aluminum foil in the sunniest spot of my driveway.I was gonna leave it out there to heat up ALOT before I crack the egg.I wanted to know, what can make the aluminum foil hotter faster? I was thinking about putting some vegetable oil on it to attract heat from the sun. Will that work? And about how long does it take for the egg to be fully cooked?

Answer:

the aluminum will be lighter weight but easier to damagethe steel will be sturdy but heavy againlook int magnesium, strong and lightweightcylindrical will be stronger of the shapes that you mentioned.
Aluminum foil reflects heat lightYou want a dark (black) surface that absorbs heat, like a car or asphalt on a streetTouch different surfaces (briefly) with your hand and see what I meanI suppose you could place the foil over top the egg once it starts cooking (shiny side down curved like a dome)That might help cook the egg faster by reflecting the heat back to your egg from the drivewayCooking oil on the driveway will make removal of the egg easier, but will have no effect on cooking timeIt could take anywhere from 5 minutes to an hour, depending on how hot your driveway isI suggest watching it for 5 minutesYou'll get a pretty good idea how long it will take to cook after that, if at all.
