Question:

FX Bulldozer vs Core i7 LGA 2011?

I'm thinking about upgrading my computer. Here are the current specs: AMD 970FX-GD70 mobo / AMD Phenom II X4 965BE CPU / Nvidia GeForce GTX 660 (2GB GDDR5) with GPU / 16GB DDR3-1600 RAMFor $540, I can do this: for $540: Intel X79 mobo / Intel Core i7-4770k (4-core; 8 hyper-threaded) CPU / same GPU / same DRAMFor $440, this: for $440: AMD 990FX-950 mobo / FX 8350 (8-core) / same GPU / same DRAM / might require new power supplyI don't believe the fact that PS4 and Xbox3.0 have AMD Jaguar CPUs will give a desktop AMD CPU and/or Nvidia GPU any performance advantage. Although, the AM3+ socket will almost certainly survive longer than the LGA 2011 socket. Is a 2011 motherboard backwards compatible with an 1150 CPU? I believe Intel is releasing a new batch of CPUs later this year; I'll wait until closer to Christmas to buy if I do.

Answer:

Intel Core i7-4770k is an 1150 not a 2011. It will not fit a 2011 motherboard.
For okorder / I stand corrected. However it's still slower than the i7-4770k when it comes to gaming, and you're going to paying more for an LGA 2011 mobo vs. an LGA 1150 mobo of the same tier. And the i7 3820 can't be effectively overclocked, further limiting it's appeal. For a gaming CPU it's just not an attractive option IMHO.
Fodaddy: Hell no. The cheapest LGA 2011 CPU you can currently get is the Core i7-3930K , it goes for around $550. Cheapest LGA is The i7 3820, at around $280, which is the cheaper than the i7 4770k, and I would recommend it along with a motherboard. Heck, I would recommend an i3 over an AMD anyday. The FX 8350 is just horrible.
