Question:

Going nuts trying to make ANY of the remote controls a universal remote!?

I was almost in tears tonight because I tried to watch a particular TV show. We just bought a new HDTV, a blue ray player, and have HD cable.1. One remote turns on the cable; if you're lucky it allows channels to be changed also.2. Another turns on the new TV.3. Another operates the new blue ray player, but has nothing to do with sound.4 Sound is controlled by another remote, but if you don't turn down the TV sound with whatever remote does that, you hear an echo.ALL of these remotes can be made into universal remotes, but either the instructions are ridiculously complicated, or we don't have them.SoooooooIs there a rule of thumb about how to go make one of these annoying things actually work on all the electronics? I did manage to get the TV set, or so I thought. The TV goes off, but never turns back on again. Can you see my frustration???(pluck, pluck, pluck pulling hair out)

Answer:

I feel you. Here is what I would do: If possible, pick out the coolest-looking remote that you have, with the Instructions. If you cannot locate the instructions, then it's time 4 U 2 go out and buy a remote that can handle all of your equipment. My Cable Box came with a nice remote ( a Motorola ) and controls just the HDTV the Cable. It has 3 more buttons on it, for VCR, DVD, Audio, that I don't really need, yet! Anyway, go ahead and buy a new multiple functioning remote. If you invest in a new TV, then it only makes sense to go to Wally World ( wall-mart ) and pick one up. They are reasonable in price, and they have a lot to choose from. I hope I was of some help.
