Trying to decide what to get for the kitchen. Quartz is antimicrobial and doesn't have the radon risk of granite. Also zero maintenance. Granite requires sealing. But a lot of people are all about the granite.Any pros or cons that I'm missing? Which is better for resale?

The speed of light in a material is the speed of light in a vacuum divided by the refractive index of the material. So the speed of light inside quartz is (3x10^8 m/s)/1.46 = 2.0548 x 10^8 m/s. Also v = fλ, the speed of any wave is its frequency times its wavelength. When the wave passes from one medium into another, its speed changes but its frequency does not. Hence the speed and the wavelength are proportional to one another for a given material. Since the speed decreases by a factor of 1.46, so must the wavelength. We can therefore get the wavelength in the quartz simply by dividing its wavelength in a vacuum by the refractive index of the quartz. Wavelength in quartz = 704 nm / 1.46 = 482 nm.
