Question:

Gypsum Board Cubicles?

Hi,How reliable it will be if i go for gyp board cubicles in my new office ?. Will it be able to bear the weight of Monitors ? How long it will last ?

Answer:

My family owns one of the largest drywall companies in Utah... just gyp board? use plywood and cover it with 1/2 or 1/4 inch drywall to make it look good. ARE you hanging the monitors on the drywall wall?
It will last forever. Or until you try to use it as a load bearing surface. Then it will fail immediately. Spend the extra money and use MDO (medium density overlay) plywood. It makes a good load bearing surface and will take paint well.
Gypsum, usually called drywall, is typically screwed on to 2x4 or 2x2 wood framing as the finished wall or ceiling surface in a room. Drywall by itself has virtually no load-bearing strength; it certainly could not bear the weight of a computer monitor.
Gypsum (drywall) has virtually no structural qualities. It requires the support of wall studs and rafters etc. Could only be used as a outside surface over a frame, even then it is not durable, easily damaged, and as for bearing weight - NO.
