Question:

Hard drive connectors .?

I have an hp pavilion dv9000 laptop. It has no hard drive so I'm putting my hard drive in it from my Compaq presario CQ60 laptop in the pavilion. I believe I need a hard drive connector to do that. Does it matter what kind of connector I need? Also where can I buy them? I need to know places offline that sell them like walmart best buy etc.

Answer:

You can see here, hope to find what you need
My only guess is that it was a low-quality, shotty insulated or shorted cable.
1. the dv9 takes 2.5'' SATA hard drives in a special caddy. 2. the CQ60 will have the same type of drive, but not the caddy. 3. without the caddy you are likely to damage the connectors. 4. you can get the caddy off e,bay - see link . 5. SATA drive connections are fairly delicate, so take care putting it together. 6. if the new drive has a larger capacity than the dv9 original the machine may possibly overheat. 7. good luck.
