a silo is a tall tank structure you see on farms where the harvested grain is kept. i have also heard those new 24 oz cans of Busch Light beer called a Silo.
The mascot - a cow - of the Lancaster (PA) Barnstormers is named Cylo, pronounced silo. A silo is a tall cylindrical storage building in which silage is kept. Silage is fodder (green forage plants), preserved by fermentation, and kept in a silo. Some farmers will run over a field of immature corn with a bush hog. (Think of a bush hog as being an industrial grade lawnmower, about 4-6 feet wide.) The corn, stalks, ears and all, are then gathered up and put in the silo, and capped with molasses, to seal air out of the silo, and keep the silage from rotting. Some farmers put green alfalfa hay in the silage. The link below shows a silo painted to look like a beer can.
