Question:

Have you ever had surgery on your jaw?

A little over a year ago, my jaw started bothering meAlso, it would pop all the time.Apparently, I have TMJIn June or July, I'm going to get surgery on my right jaw. They have to break my jaw first, and then they're going to wire it back togetherBut I'm freaked out about the pain.If you've ever had this done before, how bad does it hurt?

Answer:

Aluminum foilslowerActs as an insulator.
yesthey broke my jaw with a saw diagonally on both sides and moved it forward then screwed it back into placeI was so afraidThe operation itself is not a problem, you are out of itI know it takes several hours but you sleep through itWhen I awoke I had drains coming out my face to drain the swelling, well wierd but not painful, and my jaw had been wired externally to stop me yawning and straining itThe first day you are so sleepy and they have painkillers readyI was supposed to stay in hospital for 4 days and they had morphine ready if neededI did not need itI was up and about the next day and watching tvThey loosened the wires on my mouth over a few days, but I did have to drink through my teeth for the first day.not easy! But hey, you lose a couple of poundsIt was easier when they took out the drains and I could move aboutit was at this time (2 days) that the swelling kicked in and the bruises appearedI must admit, I looked bad, but felt great as the wires were removed externally and I could talkWithin 10 days I could go out in public, but looked a little like a chipmunkAfter 2 weeks it all looked goodThe inside of the mouth heals very quickly and the stiches soon dissolvedThere really was not that much painAfter the first day, parecetamol and codeine was enough :) Be cautioned though, buy some soluble fibre! drinking soup and fluid for 3 days can have its own unpleasant side effects ^_^ It was that which bothered me more than my jaw!!! If you have any questions just drop me an emailAnd,.its great whenever the dentists over the rest of your life take x rays and inform you about the screws in your jaw as if its something you know nothing about! LOL Oh, and you will not set off metal detectors at airports!
