Question:

HELP! High Chairs and Toddlers??

My 18 month old son is a big tall boy. He has outgrown his Fisher Price Rainforest high chair. We tried a booster seat but he just gets right down. We tried the straps but they dig into his legs and tummy and he complains. I feel he still needs to be in a high chair that can sit up to the table. Weirdly, the only chair he seems to stay in comfortably are the ones in restaurants (the wooden kind..)Any idea where to buy one like that or do you have any other ideas?Any help would be appreciated!

Answer:

have you tried getting a plastic child picnic table? My son is 20 months old and wont sit in his highchair anymore bc hes too big. He likes sitting at the picnic table bc he can feel like a big boy If that doesnt work...google wooden booster seats and it gives a bunch of places to buy the ones your looking for. Good Luck!
Yes, I know exactly what you mean! There is this one model made by Fisher Price as well. Let me go find it. Found it! I used this on the kiddo I watch when he was transitioning from two to three and on his cousin when I watched him, when he was a little over a year. You can position the tray, and it scoots up to the table. It just sits in a regular chair. Hope this helps!
I bought a wooden restaurant high chair at a local kids resale shop. You can buy them new at restaurant supply stores (like smart and final). Ikea also has a similar type chair, it is not as thick and sturdy, but it pushes up under the table and is also made of wood. I got one of those off of craigslist.
Not sure if you're a big antique fan, but if you are, you may want to try to look for a high chair from the 20s or 30s. These tend to be generously sized, so your son should be able to sit in it comfortably. I'm guessing that booster seats did not exist then, so high chairs were used until a child could sit in a regular kitchen or dining table chair.
They make high chairs that actually attach to the table, that might be an option. Then he's actually at the table, but he can't get out. Otherwise, it might be time to just get him excited about sitting at the table like a big boy. He's old enough for a time-out if he gets out, and if you get him excited enough, and maybe go buy a new booster seat together it might just be what he needs! target has restuarant style high chairs as well
