Question:

Help name change, and sofa?

Today I went to the HRO employment office and got an application to get a job here on Kadena AirBase. I am married to active duty. I am command sponsored. They told me I need a SOFA Stamp on my passport. What is it? and How do I get one? Where do I get one? Also I was wanting to change my name on my Social Security Card, Military ID, and Passport. It is still my Madien name i need to change it to my married name. How do i do that on base? And Where do I do it at?

Answer:

SOFA - Status of Forces Agreement. It's an agreement between the US and Japan regarding treatment of active duty military and their dependents. You'll need to apply to SS to get your name changed on your SS card. Just a matter of paperwork. You should be in DEERS under hubby's last name, so it shouldn't be too much of an issue for a new ID card. Passport... you'll need to get a no-fee passport. Check with the folks in Pass and ID to see who you would need to talk to. It is only in the no-fee passports that we get issued as dependents that you will find the SOFA stamp. And, instead of 10 years, it is only good for 5.
you should have gotten the SOFA stamp the day you arrived, or if you arrived by Commercial flight, within the first couple of days of arriving. it was part of the check in process. The Military ID you can get changed at the pass and ID Office. the pqssport and Social Security you must mail in to be changed at their respective departments. MAYBE the US Embassy can handle it, but you would have to call ahead to see if they are set up to do so.
if his call is on the beginning certificates you possibly have no criminal rights to except he has a similar opinion and indications papers. and that i'm uncertain if the motives you state are motives to alter her call. however the choose will come to a call that. He perhaps might quite you and ex paintings on the motives you want it replaced instead.
