Question:

Help! Old drip panscan't replacedo I NEED drip pans???

I recently moved into an older homeThe stove in the house is really old and I was unable to find proper fitting drip pans to replace the original onesDo I really need a drip pan when I am cooking? Is it safe to cook without them? What are they for?

Answer:

Drip pans not only collect liquid, but reflect heat to cook more efficientlyKeep looking at home stores, dollar stores, flea markets, and junk yardsIf you have to, cover your pans with aluminum foil or buy foil drip pans that fit under the burners until you can find new ones that fitAlso, as stoves get older (especially if also an oven), thermostats driftOur old oven is about 100 degrees too hotIf too old, I agree that it may be time to retire ole Bessie!
