Question:

Help removing Tarnish?

I was named after my grandma who died before I was bornShe gave me a silver chain with her/my name on itI got lots of tarnish on it by wearing it in water when I was youngerIs there any way to remove it? I tried tooth paste and it helped some.

Answer:

Silver polish is available in almost every grocery storeIt's not all that expensiveDo NOT use a toothbrush as recommended here as it will severely scratch itSilver is a very soft metalAnother home concoction is to take a glass bowl and line the inside of it with aluminum foilAdd a teaspoon of salt and a 1/2 cup of baking sodaBoil some waterPut your chain in the bowl and pour boiling water over all(The chain has to be touching the foil.) Let it sit for half an hour then rinse wellIf need be, repeat.
