Question:

How can I assist an elderly woman to wash her hair without having her strip down? She has a hard time bending?

nan

Answer:

on sally beauty sullpy the sell a wash basin it is like 20 buck you put it around the head and this way she can sit in a chair near the sink and then you put the basin around her head and use the hose from the sink and the over flow goes right back into the sink hope this helps
How about sitting in a chair with her head back like at the salon or how about laying at the end of a bed. Put a small pillow under her neck and use a garbage bag to cover the edge of the bed. You sit at the end of the bed with a basin in your lap and support her head while washing it with the other.
Can she bend her head backwards? Put a chair in front of a sink and have her bend her hair back like when they do when you get your hair washed at a salon. Drape a towel around her neck to keep her shirt dry. Best I can think of.
My grandmother had her washed at a beauty parlor about once a week. They had a low sink with a long handled. During the week she would use a wet washcloth just to lightly wash her hair, with a towel around her shoulder to catch dripping water. She couldn't bend over very easily either.
You will need to get a proper hairdressers basin to wash her hair in. If this isn't an option then she may be eligible for some sort of government home assist where a carer will help her shower and wash her hair if she can't do it herself. Also in hospitals when washing bed ridden patients hair they don't use dry shampoo (the fumes would negatively affect the persons breathing ability as they are already susiptible to chest infections by lying in bed all day). So they get a basin with shampoo water and sponge the hair and then sponge again with clean water. Just wanted to clear that up.
