Question:

How can I mix electrical engineering with music?

I am an electrical engineering student ,but I dont know what to do when I graduate. I like music and I want to do something with music. I have heard of audio/sound or acoustic engineering, but I don't know exactly what an audio/sound or acoustic engineer does.

Answer:

You could build electronic music instruments and effects. Amplifiers are another domain were first class talent is needed. All of this sounds easy but wait until you try and you will find that none of it is.
My brother is a DJ and works with sound and lights equiptment. You can work with installation of equipment and create new sound bytes, graphics, laser shows. He creates all kinds of things for his club is associated with the music. He also installs sound equipment for all kinds of other businesses. A lot of people don't get wiring so if you understand how all of this works than you are in high demand.
Audio is a field that many EE's get into. Focus on digital signal processing and/or amplifier design (analog circuits), and see if you can find a class from the physics department on acoustics. Auto-tune was developed by an electrical engineer working for an oil company -- the guy was working on frequency quantization to make it easier to interpret the results of ground-pounding measurements, when he realized the technique could also automatically fix pitch problems in voices. Typical salary for EEs start around $60k/yr.
Electrical Engineering And Music
this question really attract me, i am also electrical engineer but graduated 12 years a go and built good experience in electrification of buildings and infrastructure, but still i love music and i still dreaming to work and may be to study the sound engineering I think answering your question is not hard these engineers are into(music and sound) they are designing testing and operating electronic equipments used to record, produce and mix sounds , you can find them in music industry, concerts, film making, radio stationsetc you can get more info from the net(check this one as example bls /oco/ocos109.htm ) , if you really interested give it a try, especially for you as you are still in university, I do not know if it is easy for them to find a job and how much they are getting(if you have some info, please let me know), also not sure whether they are considered as engineers or technician ,do not know if this profession is regulated like the profession of electrical engineer wish you all the best, keep in touch
