Question:

how can i stop my german shepard sitting on the sofa?

i just came back off holiday and the dog wont stop sitting on the sofa,he has never done this before.I think maybe the person who was looking after him let him do it.he doesn't seem to know that he's doing anything wrong because when i shout at him he just looks at me.does anybody have any idea how i can make him stop?thanks

Answer:

train him like hes a puppy again to stay off the sofa, give him treats when hes been good, give him approval straight after when hes been good.It might take time to train him but you'll get there eventually When your shouting at him, stand up or something and he'll feel threatened(which is a good thing as you're pack leader) and point to the floor or something. Also looking into their eyes threatens them. It won't do any harm.
well my dog used to sit on the sofa when i was not looking or when i was not home but when i came back home she would go in the kitchen like she did nothing. i realized she did it when she went deaf and never heard me come in .i would leave her on the couch because it might be comfy but if not they have mats that u can put on the sofa and when she jumps up it annoys her or u can get the mat with the sensor that makes a noise when she jumps up there u can buy it at dr.foster and smith they have a website
Get a new sofa, that one's his now.
You have to teach him Off. Every time you find him on the sofa, make him get down and say off!- it doesn't have to be shouting, just firm consistent every time. In addition, watch him and say off before he even gets a chance to get on the sofa.
You can set up his own little area so he could be comfortable too. For the days he doesnt sit on the couch give him a treat and spend some time with him because he did a good deed. I have this problem with my st bernard. She just needed some disapline and she was fine. Now she gets treats for being good. Good Luck, i hope this helped!!!
