Question:

How can I unclog my bathroom sink?

My bathroom sink is so clogged its no longer draining so there is now a pool of water in the sink constantly, its gross. Can i use liquid drainer for this? Or can I do something else?

Answer:

straighten a wire hanger and leave a small L shape at the end. Shove that down the drain have give it a good twist... carefully pull the hair and gunk out. Do this a couple times until you no longer have gunk coming up. Then....plug the over flow outlet with a rag or plastic shopping bag Pour some baking soda down into the drain, then top that off with straight vinegar then plug the drain manually. (don't use the knob you pull up) Allow the pressure to build and push the rest of the clog through. Unplug and run some hot water down the drain. Good luck
If you have a stopper in your drain, you can disconnect this and bring it up.....Most likely, there is hair attached to it, keeping your sink from draining properly....There should be a lever conecting the stopper underneath the sink...If you're proficient at fixing things, you could de-attach this stopper, bring it up, remove all the gunk, put it back in, and reattach it....If you live in an apartment, it might be better to have maintenance come in and do this for you....
Use liquid drainer and if that doesn't work use a metal coat hanger and make a hook shape at the end that your sticking down the drain, then push it down the drain as far as you can get it twist it and pull it back up.
drano worked for me. but you could also get the imitations which are cheaper and have basically same ingredients. if it still doesnt work, get a metal hanger and fold it so its like a long rod with a hook. there may be hair in there ir something else preventing the water from going through. pluck out all you can. as a last resort, my dad had to disarm it a bit from under the sink and remove stuff by hand, but that was when the ring when down the sink. either way, first try drano but follow the instructions. then try the clothes hanger. then disarms. if all else fails, search for cheapest plumber around. good luck (:
before throwing all kinds of chemicals down the drain, get a bucket under the sink and remove the trap. its a j shaped pipe directly under the sink drain. the water in the sink will flow into the bucket. now take a look at the trap and the pipes and see if there is a visual clog. if so remove it. if you cannot see anything, run a drain snake down the pipes to clear the clog. you can wear rubber gloves if its too icky. reason i am against chemical cleaners at this point, is, if the drain chemicals do not clear the drain, you will need to dis-assemble and mechanically rod the drain. now you have drain chemicals all over you and under the bathroom sink.
