Question:

How did my car got jacked?

My friend got his brand new 2009 toyota camry stolen. How do ppl steal these kinds of hi tech cars? Was it hacked? Can any1 shine some light on this, thank u

Answer:

The keyless entry system that most cars now use is the main source. Instead of your car essentially being on lockdown and you giving it the access code to unluck it with the push button Your car is constantly sending out a signal searching for is FOB. All someone has to do is match it. and your car welcomes them with open arms entry ignition. everything. Sometimes technology is stupid.
there are many techniques, some simple like point a gun at the driver or break the window and hotwire it or use special tools to jimmy open the door to the use a crane to place the car on a flatbed truck there are high tech methods like capturing the code from a keyless entry fob
there is one very common thing to do in this situation that most people dont know or expect first is go jacks, can be installed on your car to lift the tires so they can push it out of obstacles and tow it, (obviously need a tow truck or similarly equipped truck) or they can take the easy approach and find your key code and make a duplicate copy of your key, since you had a new car you most likely had GAP insurance which will cover most of the cost that you owe to the bank.
