I have a 1998 Taurus, I wanted to change the brake pads, could someone tell me how to change them.
get yourself a 7 mm allen key, force back old pads completely so that the piston is fully retracted,ensuring that you have removed filler cap off brake fliud reservoir, unfasten the 2 bolts which hold brake caliper to housing, remove caliper but dont disconnect the hose, now you can remove pads, clean everything down, and remove build up of scale with screwdriver, fit new pads, you may need to force back piston a bit more before, then reassemble, tighten everything and recheck, then pump brake pedal until it feels normal, reapeat on other side. dont hold me responsible if you do anything wrong !
If you haven't been trained to repair brake systems, don't attempt it. The repair is easy to do, but it's also easy to mess up. Something as simple as a small twist on a hydraulic hose can leave your disc brakes non-functional. A return spring in the wrong place can leave your drum brakes non-functional. Installing the leading shoe in the trailing position can do the same thing, and unless you've done it before that's an easy mistake to make. A do-it-yourself brake job is a good way to get yourself killed if you don't know what you're doing. But like I said, it's an easy procedure - if you have a friend who knows how (preferably ASE certified in brake systems) get them to teach you. But don't try to puzzle it out yourself from instructions you read online. It's dangerous for you and anyone who rides with you.
you have the two put in the incorrect pads so because of the fact the calipers can't pick the flow because of the fact the pads are too huge. you have put in the calipers without suited lubrication and the calipers are caught, subsequently unable to absolutely launch the brakes. you have adjusted the park brake improperly with the intention to have it on each and all of the time. I propose you tension it and experience all 4 wheels to make certain which one is getting warm and those are the place you have carried out something incorrect. you may in lots of cases smell the brakes that are burning warm. Then take them aside and examine for interference suits and/or binding.
